What Do You Have To Say? - Music: My First Favorite Band

What was the first band you became a fan of?

Playing music was always big in my house. My father is a huge Beatles fan so I would have to say that The Beatles were my first favorite band (and still a true love). We would even watch the kitschy Bee Gees/Peter Frampton movie 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' and LOVED it (still do, once again).

The rubber stamps came from our local stamping store where the owner designed the leaf stamp and another artist designed the floral one. Copper and green are our theme colors (mostly green) and the stamps on the vellum cover are embossed-- first time trying that!. The papers of the invite are sewn together with thread from the MRC also and attach to twigs that we found while walking around our nature paths (and some from my sister's yard).

New Paintings & more

Hey all! I participated in a Plein Air Painting event this past
weekend and I'm proud to share my 2 new paintings that are complete
(I'm working on 2 additional larger pieces, as well). I'm very happy
with the color palette that I was able to discover for these small
pieces! They each measure 6" x 6" and are very affordable :) You can
check them out here: http://www.jamieribisi.com/paintings.htm
or at my Etsy store: http://jamieribisi.etsy.com

I have also lowered the prices on all of my remaining necklaces so get
them while they're hot! It's the perfect season to dress your neck up
and, at these prices, you can't lose. http://jamieribisi.com/jewelry.htm

Thank you for your support and look out for more paintings to come
soon!

35 New Necklaces- YOWSER!

My new and final batch of necklaces has been uploaded to my website.
There are 35 new pieces!!! I had a marathon session making these with
the help of my lovely sisters and my fiance. Brian and I decided that we'd like to use the money to raise funds for our honeymoon dream trip to Italy so don't forget to buy all my pretty necklaces!

Here's a very small sampling of what's available. About 1/3 of them have already been sold (I had to give my mailing list a jump start) so get your jewelry freak on ASAP!

I've also updated the shopping cart items for most of my paintings so you
can now purchase them directly through PayPal, as well. Commissioned
paintings and Fine Art Giclee prints are available in all sizes and price ranges, contact me for more info.

And gift certificates are also available through the front page of my site if you're looking to get a present but just can't decide!

All necklaces are available on a first come, first served basis. I
will update availability as often as possible (which is pretty often!).

Now what are you waiting for??? Go buy my work!

~~ SOMEBODY'S GETTING MARRIED! ~~

I'M ENGAGED!!!!!

So, last night Brian made me a really nice dinner and at every meal he gave me a gift. First he gave me an iPod Nano with an inscription on the back that said "You bring music to my life. -B" Then he gave me the iPod accessories. Then for the last gift he brought out a small box and got down on his knee and said "I have loved you since the day we met. Will you marry me?" SO SWEET! I was in a cloud of shock and, of course, said Yes and we hugged and kissed and then he told me about how he picked out the ring. He took 2 of my sisters to a bunch of shops so that they could help him pick it out. He remembered that I loved garnets and I don't like gold or diamonds. He found me a silver ring with a garnet in the middle flanked by 2 CZ stones. It's perfect! THEN he told me that my entire family knew including my 4 year old niece who was dying to tell me! I'm very surprised that everyone kept it under wraps.

I'll post pictures and more details later! It's so unreal.

:)

I have started to list some of my beads and beading supply inventory for sale on Etsy. If I get a good response I will list more. If you are looking for anything special, ask me and I'll let you know if I have it and the cost. I have alot of semi-precious strands and half or partial strands. I could also make up goodie bags of certain colors, etc (maybe I'll list that while it's snowing tonight!)

Also have some paintings, drawings, photographs, etc posted in my Etsy shop. All jewelry is on clearance until it's gone! Trades always welcomed!

---The end of the line---

I am officially announcing that I will no longer be making jewelry. I would really love to be able to focus my time on painting and several other projects that I have been working on. This was a tough decision as I have so many lovely people on my mailing list and Friends list who have been very supportive from the very beginning. This will really free up my time and creative energy so I am looking forward to painting more (I even stretched & gessoed new canvases so be on the look-out for new paintings soon!) I will have roughly 40 new necklaces available in the next month as I clear out all of my jewelry stock. Of course, I will send updates when they are uploaded to my site.

In honor of my decision-- I am going to be placing ALL jewelry new and old on great clearance prices. My website will be updated late tonight to reflect all the new prices. In the meantime you can purchase many pieces from my Etsy shop at the clearance prices:

http://jamieribisi.etsy.com

If you do not want to use Etsy, simply email me the item(s) you would like and how you would like to pay and I will send you an invoice. My email is jamieribisi AT gmail.com

I am now also accepting Google checkout for all payments!

Once again-- thank you all for your continued support!
-Jamie.

I'll definately be doing it again but it sure does take alot out of me. Here are shots of the restaurant all decked out in fabulous artwork! I'm am way too excited to have Ralph Turturro showing with me. He's one of my very favorite painters on Pidjin and I strive to be as cool as he is :) It was SO amazing weird cool and fantastic to finally meet some Pidjin members-- Along with Ralph (and his wonderful wife) we got to meet Ela Orleans who is THE nicest artist I have ever met. We're going to buy a small painting from her and hopefully hang out again real soon. Met back up with Jeff Smith who I haven't seen since our Boston days. Also reconnected with some old college and high school art friends who are also showing.

The opening is going to be out of this world! If you can stop by this Friday 7-10pm we'll be at La Vuelta Bistro 10-43 44th Drive in Long Island City, NY. Stop by and say HI!

New year

Listed many "new" items in my Etsy Store!

These are a collection of my life figure drawings from 2000 most of which have never been displayed or listed for sale previously and original Polaroid 669 photographs from 2004. They are priced to sell-- cleaning out my studio for a very productive new year! (full or partial trades always considered)

I'm looking toward the new year to get some things finally going for myself:
-SELL ART!
-Get my work shown in some galleries, exhibits off and online (post suggestions of online galleries if you can think of any!)
-Put together a bunch of exhibits. I'm currently working on one for the end of January that I'm very excited about and I would love to keep this ongoing.
-Lose weight-- I've always been trtying this but I really want to feel better and healthier. I don't care that much about body image I really just want to feel better.
-Save money -this one should become easier as I've gotten a big bonus and a large raise at work-- yahoo!

I'm sure that there's more but these are top on my list. Check out my Etsy Shop and help out with #1 ;)

The Flesh Crawls
Oil on Maple Plywood
11.25" x 11.5"
December 2006

Recently I have been working on a commission for a friend of a his girlfriend belly-dancing. It's totally not my thing to paint but he really wanetd it and I wanted some cash :) I was so happy to be mixing flesh colors again (it's been a while, really) and I kept looking at my rag filled with excess paint in fun colors and shaking my head at what a waste these good colors were. Then I wised up and started to work on this painting with all of the paint that wasn't to be used in the other canvas. Very happy with the results and I may even do a few in this color scheme. I had something more yellowed in mind but I loved how this pink worked with the background.

Ah. To be painting more! I prepared some stretched canvases for next week's adventure. I want to paint paint paint more more more. I know the next few weeks will be stressful trying to get this art how together but I'm SO excited for it. I don't really care what anxiety I'm placingon myself...I love doing things lik this. I've gotten so many good responses from my old college friends. --it makes me smile and feel good!

Speaking of feeling good-- I had a consult with an acupuncturist today and I will be going for my first session next Wednesday! I've been wanting this for a long long long time. He was supposed to do the first treatment tonight but all of his patients came late and I was the last appointment so I got the shaft. Poo. My head and my back need this. Badly.

LITTLE HELP !

My friend needs me to help him set up a cd-based presentation of his art work that he can send to colleges. What are the most basic ways to present a slide show that can be saved to cd? Do I need to do a PowerPoint presentation or is there some freeware that I can use to create this? I will be scanning his slides next week and we want something professional (he's applying for his Master's) yet simple. I don't want to just drop files into a folder, I want a slideshow of sorts that he can also have the artwork's info typed up next to or below it. I've seen nice presentations like this before but I've never created them.

Any help??

Art show! -CALL FOR ART!

Hey all! I am going to be curating a few art shows at La Vuelta Bistro in Long Island City, NY (Queens). If anyone is interested in showing their work, please send me some examples or links. I will be contacting some people individually and making abetter post than this one but it's a start for today -- I have to go paint, myself, so this is about it for now.

Some details: There is alot of nice brick wall space in this hip bistro. They are located in an area of LIC that is surrounded by the huge Citibank building and a Bank of America building which equals lots of people with money! They are currently running art shows on a one-month basis and all piece will be labled with your name, price, and artwork info. There will be a contact list given to the owner and he is really good about trying to get the work sold. They do sell pieces that are on display and there will also be an opening reception for the current month's show. And there is NO commission! The next exhibit is scheduled for January 19th so email me soon to be included!!!

I would like to get alot of New Yorkers for this first show but I am open to others as well. Just contact me.

This & That

This weekend, Brian and my sis and I went to the Bust Holiday Craftacular in Brooklyn. There was some very nice handmades but it was hard to see anything much less think about buying it since the place was WAY too packed! It was at the Warsaw club which is an ok size but they crammed as many tables as possible into the space and with the amount of people that showed up, it was pretty ridiculous. Plus, the lighting was TERRIBLE! They were so dim and then there was loud music coming from the DJ which made it hard to speak with the vendors. Overall it was good, I love seeing the items but there wasn't anything there that wasn't expensive..kind of stunk. I had dreams of leaving with a bag full of items! But I did buy a necklace for myself and a Christmas present for Joy-- a cute crocketed t-shirt/tank. Then we went down the street to Fred Flare and met Amy Sedaris which was surreal. She was selling fake cakes and lots of fun items. One of her helpers went to high school with us which is a wierd coincidence. But that filled our quota for the day, 1 famous person and 1 person we know. It always happens when we go into Brooklyn or Manhattan. Very strange.

Anyhoo-- don't forget my LJ only sale going on until December 18th (still plenty of time to ship before Christmas! -- take 15% off any order by emailing or commenting here. I am also now offering Gift Certificates in any denomination!
